The American Animal Hospital Association is a regulatory agency which requires its members to undergo a voluntary accreditation process in order to maintain membership. The hospital and staff must meet rigorous standards and provide services in 21 specific categories. These include anesthesiology, client services, contagious disease, continuing education, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, emergency/urgent care, examination facilities, housekeeping and maintenance, human resources, laboratory, leadership, medical records, pain management, patient care, pharmacy, safety, and surgery.
